The Origin of Craftsmanship
Mr. Lui Ming was born in December 1930 in Heshan, Guangdong Province, into a wealthy family, yet he earned his living through farming. However, Mr. Lu Ming was not satisfied with the status quo. At the age of 19, he decided to reach out to locals and asked them to connect him with manufacturers in Guangzhou where he could work and learn the craft, eventually mastering the art of making bamboo steamers and sieves.
December 1930

The era of the "Great Hong Kong Exodus"
At that time, 32-year-old Mr. Lu Ming smuggled himself from Macau to Hong Kong by sea and landed in Sai Kung. He was penniless and temporarily stayed at a friend's house. He found a job in a shop on Shandong Street in Kowloon that specialized in making sieves (粉篩) and did odd jobs there, using his skills to make a living.
June 1962

Entrepreneurial journey
Mr. Lui Ming, determined to start his own business, rented a small room on Xin Tian Di Street to research and produce steamers and flour sieves. He found that the current market had complicated manual processes, leading to slow production rates and limited durability. Using his skills and knowledge of raw materials and machinery, he invested heavily in machinery companies to develop semi-mechanical tools and operations. These tools significantly reduced manual processes and improved the durability of the products. Mr. Lui Ming distributed steamers throughout Hong Kong, stopping at eateries and tea places to market them. After receiving orders, he returned to his workshop to work diligently, day and night, to create steamers. This marked the beginning of Ming Sang Steel Bamboo Steamer Receptacle.
Early 1971

The Fruits Of Hard Work And Diligence
Mr. Lui Ming, with his dedication to the quality of steamers, hard work, and willingness to endure hardships, successfully gained the appreciation and recognition of many chefs from restaurants, tea houses, and eateries, allowing his business to gradually take off. As the business and customer base grew, Mr. Lu Ming decided to move to Tin Sum Village in Yuen Long to have enough space to store raw materials, tools, and inventory to produce and provide steamers for each of his customers. He converted a pig farm into a factory suitable for producing steamers and even hired and trained some workers to help in the production of steamers.
Around the mid-1970s

Placing oneself in the position of another
Mr. Lui Ming opened his first shop, "Ming Sheng Steel Bamboo Steamer Baskets," at 275 Shanghai Street, Yau Ma Tei.
Early 1980s

Mr. Lui Ming's business is growing rapidly, yet he remains complacent. Instead, he constantly seeks the advice of chefs from various restaurants and customers from various stores, thereby enhancing the traditional bamboo steamer by replacing the bamboo slats with stainless steel ones. He is the first person in Hong Kong to construct a stainless steel-ringed steamer. Simultaneously, various distinctively sized all-stainless steel steamers were built to be compatible with the most popular rice cookers of the period, allowing residents to cook or heat meals while rice was being cooked.
The 1980s
The Golden Age of Industry
At that time, mainland China was in the reform and opening-up phase, encouraging industrial development. Mr. Lui Ming observed that the production capacity in Hong Kong was insufficient to meet demand, so he decided to move the production facility to mainland China. Initially, it was set up in Shenzhen, and later moved to Guangzhou, until it finally settled in its current location in Baiyun District (An An Stainless Steel Kitchenware Factory).
By early 1990, the number of factory workers had increased, productivity had surged, and with the help of his son, Mr. Lui Ming was able to promote the steamers and flour sieves of the brand "Ming Sang" that he had founded to several overseas countries. As a result, many unscrupulous merchants/factories at the time began to copy or counterfeit the "Ming Sang" brand steamers.
Late 1980s

Craftsmanship
Although Mr. Lui Ming and his establishment, "Ming Sang Steel Bamboo Receptacle," have gone through many years of trials like other industries, Mr. Lui Ming is now 93 years old. However, he still maintains a continuous learning attitude, trying to explore and develop new methods to perfect each steamer. Mr. Lui Ming also occasionally uses his skills, knowledge, and business experience to teach his descendants, helping them solve problems in their business.
To This Day

Continuing The Past Yet Reaching Towards The Future
Jimmy Lui, the grandson of Mr. Lui Ming, has been working in Hong Kong and Guangzhou factories since 2015. He learns about managing a factory from his father, Mr. Lui Lok On, who manages the factory and domestic operations. In Hong Kong, he assists his grandfather, Mr. Lui Ming, who manages the wholesale business, and his mother, Ms. Lui Wong Yim Wah, who understands the operations and sales model of the Hong Kong factory. He also learns about industry peers and clients, as well as the quality standards of Hong Kong products.
During his time in Hong Kong, the baking industry had limited brand and style choices for tools, leading to inconsistent quality. Customers had to choose cheap, expensive tools from foreign brands, which were relatively expensive and had limited styles. Jimmy Lui realized this situation and used his factory resources to produce baking tools in various styles, sizes, safety features, and affordable prices, while also being aesthetically pleasing and durable.

The Birth Of The "MingBan" Brand
Jimmy Lui officially and successfully registered the brand "MingBan" in early 2021. The main business is to promote the baking products produced by his own factory under his own brand. In addition to retaining the "Ming Sang" brand's bamboo/stainless steel steamers and flour sieves, he also produces/customizes high-quality stainless steel and aluminum alloy baking tools for DIY baking shops, bread and pastry shops, food factories, and more. Secondly, he uses his professional knowledge and experience to help customers in need find high-quality and cost-effective tools and supplies for them. Mr. Jimmy Lui hopes to introduce more new products and different sales channels for "Ming Sang," while upholding the artisan spirit of empathy and selflessness that his grandfather always insisted on, ensuring the "Ming Sang Steamer" brand continues to thrive!
